Terms of service

Last updated September 2026

This is a template written for a portfolio demonstration and is not legal advice. Have a qualified lawyer review it before operating a real service.

1. Acceptance of terms

By creating an account or using ESCROW.org you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. The escrow service

We hold the buyer’s payment on behalf of both parties and release it according to the transaction’s status: to the seller after acceptance or the end of the inspection period, or as decided in a dispute.

We are not a party to the underlying sale and do not guarantee the quality, legality or delivery of any goods or services.

3. Accounts and verification

You must provide accurate information and keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for activity on your account. Administrators must use two-factor authentication.

Identity verification may be required for higher transaction limits or to comply with the law.

4. Fees

The escrow fee is shown before you confirm a transaction and is fixed when the transaction is created. The party or parties who agreed to pay it are charged as described on the transaction.

5. Payments and PayPal

Payments and payouts are processed by PayPal and are subject to PayPal’s own terms. We are not responsible for PayPal delays, holds or limits on your PayPal account.

Sellers must maintain an accurate PayPal email. Payouts sent to the address on file cannot be reversed by us.

6. Disputes

Either party may open a dispute while funds are in escrow. Funds are frozen while we review the evidence, and we may decide to refund the buyer, pay the seller or split the amount. Our decision on how funds held by us are disbursed is final within the service.

7. Prohibited use

You may not use the service for illegal goods or services, money laundering, fraud, or to circumvent legal or regulatory obligations. We may cancel transactions, freeze funds where required by law and suspend accounts that breach these terms.

8. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the fees you paid for the transaction concerned.

9. Termination

You may close your account when you have no active transactions. We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms. Provisions that by nature should survive termination will do so.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced in the app or by email before they take effect.
